FAQ
Q What should I do if the battery cannot be charged?
a) Check the charger: Some chargers must detect the battery voltage before starting. To judge, disconnect the charger and measure its output voltage. If it shows a constant 14.5V, the charger is fine. If it displays 0V, the BMS low-voltage protection has been triggered, meaning the charger cannot activate the battery.
Solution: Replace the charger with one capable of activating 0V batteries.
b) Battery issue: The battery is damaged internally and cannot accept a charge.
Q Why is the battery voltage abnormal?
a) Low voltage upon receipt: This happens when the battery has been stored for too long. Self-discharge lowers the voltage below the BMS protection limit, displaying voltages like 3V, 5V, or 8V.
Solution: Activate and fully charge the battery.
b) Voltage drop after charging: Ensure you are using the correct charger. Note that lithium battery voltage naturally settles from 14.5V down to 13.5V-13.6V shortly after removing the charger. This is normal.
Q Why does the battery display insufficient capacity?
a) Charger compatibility: Standard LiFePO4 batteries require a 14.5V charger. If you use a ternary lithium charger (12.8V), the battery will only charge up to about 30% capacity. Solution: Replace with the correct adapter charger.
b) Cut-off voltage setting: The battery capacity is calculated based on discharging from 14.5V down to 10V.
c) High discharge rate: Nominal capacity is measured at a 0.5C discharge rate. Using 1C or 2C rates will significantly reduce the effective capacity.
d) Low temperature: Operating below 0°C drastically limits the discharge capability.
Q Why does the battery voltage drop so quickly?
a) Voltage curve characteristics: In the ranges of 13.7V-14.5V and 12V-10V, the capacity retention is minimal, causing the voltage to shift rapidly.
b) Battery life: The battery pack has reached the end of its useful cycle life.
c) High load: Standard capacity is rated at 0.5C. Continuous discharge at 1C or 2C will cause rapid voltage drops.
Q What causes slow charging?
a) Low temperatures: Charging below 0°C is prohibited. Doing so severely slows down the process and causes permanent battery damage.
b) Low current: The charging device outputs a low current level.
Q What causes the battery to overheat or smoke?
a) Excessive discharge rate: Drawing too much current causes the BMS to overheat, eventually melting or burning the outer shell.
b) High charging voltage: Applying a voltage over 30V damages the BMS, leading to overcharging, swelling, overheating, and smoke.
